Main Front Cover and Contents page

This is my finished magazine cover and contents page , I think that the process in making them were hard as there was a lot i needed to consider .How i took the images , colours i needed to use , fonts , articles etc, The drafting process was the easiest i just needed to get the colours right and the fonts and styles i wanted , then i moved on to the magazine cover itself , i went with the feedback i got on the questionnaire i handed out , with those answers i made the front cover , there was problems when making it , the words were too big so they stuck out of the lines and when i made it smaller you wasn't able to see it ,
The text had to be the right colour so you could see it over the blue .The things that went well was that the colour scheme was good it went with the school theme and stands out , The image that i chose for the front cover is very happy and inviting , i think the magazine front cover was a good start from my preliminary task , obviously there is areas that i need to think through for the main task .
The contents page was tricky i didn't really have any images that went with the articles and when i found some it was hard to fit them in which is why i only have three , i stuck with the same sort of colour scheme but switched it around making the dark blue at the top and light blue at the bottom .
The contents paoge i think was the hardest as its hard to get a layout that looks good , but i tried my best to make it look as good as possible .
The errors i came across when doing the magazine and contents was making the colours look exactly the same and finding images that fit .
All in all i think my magazine went well .

contents page research and mock magazine cover

I looked through a lot of school magazine and normal magazine contents pages, some of them seem adventurous and so seem boring . In order for the the magazine to stand out i need a good front cover and contents page , i need to get the right balanced between interesting but not too over the top so it crowds the page .
In my mock magazine cover i used bright blue colours to symbolise school colours , even though its a magazine for 6th form i thought it would be fitting to have school colours for the front cover and the contents page .
For the front cover mock-up i used mostly blue and white , the reason for this is because the white stood out from the dark blue background and the light blue background made the dark blue masthead stand out , i put the main articles on the front , the ones that would grab more attention , this picture would obviously be in the middle and the text would be on top of it , but you Will still be able to see the blue it will be kind of like a border .I think the blue connotes to the school , its a simple colour but stands out more than anything .

With the contents page i decided to keep the blue vibe going , but this time only used white text , i know the contents page is supposed to be as good as the front cover , if anything better . So that's why I'm going to but more images in to make it a bit more interesting because at the moment its very bland and it need something . i decided to kinda manipulate the colour so the bottom of the front cover is a dark blue and the top is a light blue , i swapped it around with the contents page to make the top dark and the bottom light .

Conventions of Magazine covers

There are many conventions of magazine covers , first the masthead this is the main part of the magazine cover it's suppose to make a bold statement and want people to buy it .
second is the picture its the one thing that's most inviting about a magazine cover , if it has your favourite celebrity on you would immediately want to buy it , and all so the articles around the image if it has an interesting article your going to want to buy it .
The barcode is obviously an element that many magazine have so you can buy it .
The main featured article is the one thats always bold and in a different colour and font and size .

Analysis of magazine questionaire

To determine what i was to put in my magazine blog , i needed to find out what people wanted in it , the questions in my blog were :
what would you prefer the magazine to be called ?
what colour would you prefer the magazine to be ?
what would you like the magazine to consist of ?
how much would you like to pay for the magazine ?
where would you like prefer the front cover location to be ?
would you like a gift ?
I had good feed back from these questions , i gave them options and space to state their opinion which proved to be a big help .
I have put everyones feed back to good use and have deciced to make my magazine winter colours (snow, sliver, blue) and the name of the magazine will be Beaverwood News , the front cover image is still undecided but its between the quad and the reciptions  and it will also be free to the 6th form and will include a free gift .

Front Cover Photo For School Magazine

The first image that i took was at the front of the school at the reception , i thought it was a smart place for a front cover image as it as the reception sign outside the door , the person in the picture looks smart wearing correct 6th form attire with books in hand . I think this shot is perfect for my front cover as the school has high standards for 6th form Abbie ( the model) sets that perfect example .

This picture was taken in the quad , i do realise there is a bin in the background of this image if i were to use this i would edit it with photo shop . I think the image has a happy vibe to it , the lighting is good and the model looks like she's happy , i think this is a good image to use because she looks happy which is a good start  , looks very smart with 6th form attire on and book in hand .

This picture was taken in the resistant materials office , i thought i could use this because it shows what the 6th form get up to in there lessons and the safety precautions . I think the picture would kinda stand out as it shows a pupil working within the school using dangerous equipment .

I've chosen the picture of Abbie , as i think it shows the 6th form of as very smart and egar to learn (books in hand ).i think the location is perfect as you have the school logo and reciption sign .

Tuesday's lesson :What i learnt

In today's lesson we went through the types of themes we could possible make our magazine , Halloween , Christmas , Easter , firework night , summer etc . This was helpful as i didn't think of themeing my magazine especially because it's for school , Mrs James then took as round the school for the perfect photo places we could take our picture .I will probably choose the front of the school or the quad maybe even the main building , i will probably take test shots in these different areas to see what the best outcome is and use the best one for the magazine cover .

The theme of my magazine is still undecided , i might do Halloween as it  would be a lot of fun to make , the front cover could include a pupil with a shadow behind them , or summer as its very vibrant and you can use very bright colours to make the magazine cover stand out .

Also the magazine would be either about the 6th form or the main school (7-11) , if i was to do i 6th form magazine i would make it very modern and i wouldn't make it just about school ,I'd add other things to make it interesting and so that the 6th form would read it . and the front cover would have to have a member of the 6th form outside .

As for the main school i would make  the front cover stand out alot because when your that age you don't really want to read you just want to watch telly , it would also have to have a member of the any year , but obviously not including the 6th form .

The camera shot we must use is a mid-shot this is from the waist to the top part of your body , finding the right place is key , it must show the pupil with out make-up on and dressed in perfect uniform to show the standards are very high . same goes for the 6th form shot they must be dressed in perfect smart wear , a little make-up is good .

Finding the right location is imperative it must hold good lighting and fit to the theme also .

Primary Times magazine cover

The front cover of this primary school magazine is colourful and child friendly , i think its perfect for a kids and parents as one sub-title is called 'whats on and where to go ' .The masthead is colourful and big and would draw the potential readers in . The audience is obviously parents with kids who are in school or nursery .
